Background
From 2011 to 2015, the aRWSome Apprenticeship Series ran as a fruitful partnership between Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) Cares and Heartware Network. The collaboration inspired students to explore a good range of vocations through mentorship programmes during the school holidays, thereby building up their curriculum vitae (CV) at a young age.The vocational tracks were:

  1. Culinary (2011-2013)
  2. Performing Arts and Entertainment (2011-2013)
  3. Hospitality (2011-2014)
  4. Attractions (2011-2013, 2015)
  5. Food and Beverage (2015)
  6. Retail (2015)

Objectives
The objectives of the programme included:

  1. Nurturing students in public speaking and interpersonal, skills with interacting with staff and public.
  2. Developing real world skills through application of theoretical knowledge in real life scenarios.
  3. Improving student’s MOE LEAPS’s portfolio.

Through the five years, more than 160 less-privileged students completed their aRWSome journey, gaining memorable experiences and having developed into be more holistic individuals.

The organisation is looking forward to leverage on the bigger space to support its growth in youth engagement and development for the local youth community.

The new Heartware Network office will host a multitude of activities within the same space, enabling the organisation to increase its engagement of youth volunteers to serve a wider community. These activities range from curation of community projects by youth leaders, selection of youth applicants for youth programmes and on-boarding & training of youth volunteers before they are deployed on the ground to provide services to the local communities.

Culinary Track (2011-2013)

The culinary track was held over a three-day course. The course was taught by 4 RWS Chefs and it covered 4-course meal preparation and guest serving. In the second part of culinary track, selected students from the three-day course went on a two-week attachment at F&B outlets in Universal Studios Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa. Students experienced front end service to guests at the F&B outlets in this attachment.

Entertainment Track (2011-2013)

Under the entertainment track, students were exposed to stilt-walking, and became animated mascots. They also trained for their performance in the Hollywood Dreams Parade, rehearsing alongside the USS resident dance crew Rockerfellas.

Hospitality Track (2011-2014)

In the hospitality track, students were attached to three different hotels in Resort World Sentosa, and took on roles such as front desk, butler, and housekeeping.

Attractions Track (2011-2013, 2015)

Under the attractions track, students were attached to Universal Studios Singapore or Marine Life Park and were involved in roles like entry operations, park and guest services, and leading VIP tours. They were taught by the professionals in RWS on customer service and hospitality.

Food and Beverage Track (2015)

Students got to experience hands on experiences in various F&B outlets within USS. They were specially trained and guided by experienced staff and professional chefs from the RWS team. They were given roles in operations & service, and culinary.

Retail Track (2015)

In the retail track, students gained a range of real life working skills transferable to all retail companies. Tasks included assisting customers in the front line or working behind the scenes in stock handling.
